Heart of the World

Well ... began this blog in April 2005, with a journey to Peru and the Andes. Since then we've been to India, Nepal, Mexico, returned home to Nelson BC in Canada, and took off again for South America. It's now September 2009 and Jim and Carol are preparing to travel to Bali for two months. Terence will be staying home on Crystal Mountain in Nelson. Here are some reflections and photos of our travels through these sacred lands. To contact us, email: listenbreatheletgo@gmail.com

May 21, in Cusco

Hello friends,

Carol and I have come to Cusco today to visit Carol's godchild in the hospital, get laundry done and try to meet a few friends who are just here for the night. We have just come back from Quoylluriti. We went with our friends Wiñay Taki, in the back of a truck all night to the town of Mayahuwani. Very cold ride. In the middle of the night, in the dark and mist we got out on a high point to dance and ask the Apu for permission to come and make relationship and offerings. When we got out of the truck we walked 8 k's up the hill to the valley. A very slow walk for us as the valley is at 14,000 feet and we are not yet fully acclimatized. We camped by a huaca, a large rock that has been considered sacred by the people here for hundreds of years. During the day we danced and made offerings to the mountain spirits there. The next day Terence and I hiked up to the glacier with Wiñay Taki. High mountains, bright blue sky, stopping to make an offering to the Apu, two condors flying over, making prayers of gratitude to the Apus here and in Canada, making prayers in the prayer bundle for friends and family, releasing anything negative by placing more coca leaves in the despacho (the offering made by the 13 of us), walking back down while Wiñay Taki played music as we descended again to the valley.

Yesterday we went to the first birthday of Araq K'anchay, the son of Tita and Carlos. The first birthday is a huge event and the community comes to celebrate together. Many, many children, with rainbow headbands and feathers, much dancing mostly with the children, refreshments, candies, popcorn, gifts, confetti, a huge piñata, laughing faces and truly a wonderful family, community, allyu (spiritual family) event.

We have had a wonderful time with the first group you see on the blog pictures. I hope to hike a little in the next week with Carol and Terence and we will all be doing ceremony on the full moon to connect with you and the others of our expanding allyu. Muchos gracias a todos. Thank you everyone. Thank you Pachamama, Thank you Pachakamaq. Thank you mother earth, thank you Great Mystery. Jim
